Virginia Railway Express
VRE intends to issue a Request for Proposals for Operating and Maintenance Services for its commuter rail operations. This RFP will seek proposals from viable, experienced organizations who are interested in assuming the role of VRE’s contract operator for train service and equipment maintenance, including many associated functions.
Our current contract with Amtrak expires on June 30, 2010. The new contract will be effective July 1, 2010.
VRE is willing to permit any interested parties to arrange a visit to learn about the system and VRE operations prior to initiation of the procurement process.

Effective September 12, 2008, no additional visits, inspections, meetings, etc. will be permitted outside of the procurement process.
Please note that a formal site inspection of all VRE properties will be conducted as part of the procurement process and will be mandatory.
