The VRE Operations Board draws its members from each of the nine jurisdictions that fund the commuter rail service, and the Commonwealth of Virginia. Those jurisdictions are the counties of Stafford, Spotsylvania, Prince William, Fairfax and Arlington, and the cities of Manassas Park, Manassas, Fredericksburg and Alexandria.
Serving as an advisory body to the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission (NVTC) and the Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission (PRTC), which co-own VRE, the Operations Board makes recommendations with respect to VRE's management, financing, and acquisition of property.
The Operations Board generally meets at 9 a.m. on the third Friday of each month, except August, at PRTC’s offices. Agendas, minutes, and supporting materials are published a week prior to the meetings.
