Morning Service

Train 306 - delayed 17 minutes due to following a CSX freight train and passenger dwell time.

Train 330 - delayed 6 minutes due to activating a trackside detector, and waiting for an Amtrak train clear the track leading into Alexandria Station.

Train 301 - delayed 32 minutes due to heat restrictions and residual delays from the repairs to signals near Quantico. FRCs were handed out to those delayed 30 minutes or more.

Summary of delays:
CSX signal problems between Arkendale (north of Brooke) to North Possum Point (north of Quantico) caused significant delays to both morning and afternoon service. The signal problems caused our trains to operate at 15 mph over this 10 mile stretch. This combined with train congestion resulted in delays of more than an hour on the Fredericksburg line. The signals were repaired over the weekend.

Morning Service

Train 300 - delayed 90 minutes into Union Station as the result of signal problems. FRCs were handed out to those on board.
Train 302 - delayed 67 minutes into Union Station as the result of signal problems and following train 300. FRCs were handed out to those on board.
Train 304 - delayed 55 minutes into Union Station as the result of signal problems. FRCs were handed out to those on board.
Train 306 - delayed 52 minutes into Union Station as the result of signal problems. FRCs were handed out to those on board.
Train 308 - delayed 130 minutes into Union Station as the result of signal problems. FRCs were handed out to those on board.
Train 310 - delayed 161 minutes into Union Station as the result of signal problems. FRCs were handed out to those on board.

Train 332 - delayed 30 minutes into Union Station after activating a track side detector, requiring a train inspection. FRCs were handed out to those on board.

Afternoon/Evening Service

Train 301 - delayed 141 minutes into Fredericksburg as the result of signal problems and following a CSX freight train. FRCs were handed out to those on board.
Train 303 - delayed 54 minutes into Fredericksburg as the result of signal problems and heat restrictions. FRCs were handed out to those on board.
Train 305 - delayed 57 minutes into Fredericksburg as the result of signal problems and heat restrictions. FRCs were handed out to those on board.

Summary of Delays:
Lightning struck a signal on the Fredericksburg Line at Possum Point (between Rippon and Quantico) during the height of our evening service, causing extensive damage to the signal and nearby signals, as well as the track switches on both sides of Quantico Bridge. Delays occurred due to inoperable signals and switches which conductors had to step off the train to manually operate.

Train 300 - Delayed 18 minutes due to signal problems near Alexandria, and following two CSX freight trains.
Train 302 - Delayed 7 minutes due to signal problems near Alexandria.
Train 308 - Delayed 18 minutes due to signal problems near Alexandria

Train 301 - delayed 17 minutes due to heat restrictions, other speed restrictions and passenger assistance.

- delayed 30 minutes due to the signal problem between Rippon and Quantico and heat restrictions. FRCs were handed out on board.

- delayed 96 minutes due to the signal problem between Rippon and Quantico, track inspections and heat restrictions. FRCs were handed out on board.

- delayed 47 minutes due to the signal problem between Rippon and Quantico and following trains 305 and 307. FRCs were handed out on board.

- delayed 45 minutes due to the signal problem between Rippon and Quantico and heat restrictions. FRCs were handed out on board.

- delayed 38 minutes due to the signal problem between Rippon and Quantico. FRCs were handed out on board.

Train 333 - delayed 11 minutes between Alexandria and Backlick Road due to train 338.

- delayed 24 minutes near Alexandria due to switch problems.

- delayed 4 minutes due to radio problems and activating a defect detector between Manassas Park and Manassas.

Summary of Delays:

Congestion created by the nighttime tie work resulted in a CSX local freight train occupying both main tracks at AF (just south of Alexandria) during a portion of the afternoon rush and ultimately led to the expiration of that train's crew under the hours of service law at North Possum Point (south of Rippon) blocking track 2. Additionally, heat orders and a late evening switch failure at AF contributed to the delays.

Morning Service

Train 300 - delayed 7 minutes into Union Station after following a freight train that activated a track side detector.

Afternoon/Evening Service

Train 301 - delayed 8 minutes into Fredericksburg as the result of slow orders and passenger assistance.
Train 303 - delayed 61 minutes into Fredericksburg as the result of track inspections and train congestion between Crystal City and Franconia/Springfield. Train 303 also followed a freight train between Franconia/Springfield and Fredericksburg. FRCs will be handed out on July 27 for this delay.
Train 305 - delayed 45 minutes into Fredericksburg as the result of train congestion and following train 303 and the freight train.
Train 307 - delayed 93 minutes into Fredericksburg after following a local freight train which "outlawed" on the tracks ahead. Train 307 was forced to wait before it could reverse to get around the outlawed train.
Train 309 - delayed 25 minutes into Fredericksburg as the result of heat restrictions, the outlawed freight train, and having passengers detrain at the far track at Rippon.
Train 311 - delayed 72 minutes into Fredericksburg due to train congestion caused by having only a single track available as a result of the outlawed train.
Train 313 - delayed 79 minutes into Fredericksburg due to operating on 337's schedule, following train 311 and moving train 311 from Fredericksburg after our crew outlawed.

Train 327 - delayed 33 minutes into Broad Run as the result of track inspections and train congestion between Crystal City and the Norfolk Southern tracks south of Alexandria.
Train 329 - delayed 26 minutes into Broad Run as the result of track inspections and train congestion between Crystal City and the Norfolk Southern tracks south of Alexandria.
Train 331 - delayed 25 minutes into Broad Run as the result of track inspections and train congestion between Crystal City and the Norfolk Southern tracks south of Alexandria.
Train 333 - delayed 7 minutes into Broad Run due to following behind train 309 at Alexandria and 331 between Backlick Road and Broad Run.
Train 337 - delayed 23 minutes due to late operation of trains 327 and 338. Train originated at Alexandria due to late running trains 327 and 338; train unable to make it back to Washington in time to originate as train 337 at Union Station.
Train 338 - Terminated at Alexandria due to late operation and need to turn around as train 337.

Train 305 - delayed 17 minutes due to heat restrictions and due to activating a detector that required a train inspection between Rippon and Quantico.
Train 307 - delayed 19 minutes due to heat restrictions and due to activating a detector that required a train inspection between Rippon and Quantico.
Train 309 - delayed 11 minutes due to heat restrictions.
Train 313 - delayed 51 minutes to handle customers for canceled train 337, heavy train congestion near Alexandria, and due to following an Amtrak train from Alexandria to Fredericksburg. FRCs were handed out on board.

- delayed 87 minutes at Alexandria due to waiting for train 313 to deliver train 337's passengers to Alexandria, due to train 337 being canceled. FRCs were handed out on board.

- canceled due to mechanical problems on train 338 preventing train from reaching Washington to turn around and become train 337. FRCs were handed out on board train 335, which was held at Alexandria to carry train 337's passengers.

Train 332 - delayed 18 minutes into Union Station as the result of a dispatching error that sent Fredericksburg line #310 ahead of #332 (normally it's the other way around).

Train 301 - delayed 9 minutes into Fredericskburg as the result of heat restrictions.
Train 303 - delayed 21 minutes into Fredericksburg due to a combination of following CSX freight trains and heat restrictions.
Train 305 - delayed 15 minutes into Fredericksburg due to a combination of being held for a CSX freight train and heat restrictions.
Train 307 - delayed 9 minutes into Fredericksburg as the result of heat restrictions.

Summary of delays:
A switch problem south of Crystal City caused significant delays to earlier trains, with lesser delays as the switch was fixed. For Fredericksburg line trains, these delays were combined with heat restrictions for additional delays.

Train 306 - delayed 18 minutes into Union Station as the result of mechanical problems south of Fredericksburg and following a freight train between Quantico and Rippon.

Afternoon/Evening Service

Train 301 - delayed 12 minutes into Fredericksburg due to heat restrictions.
Train 303 - delayed 30 minutes into Fredericksburg due to switch problems south of Crystal City and heat restrictions. FRCs were handed out to those affected.
Train 305 - delayed 40 minutes into Fredericksburg due to switch problems south of Crystal City and heat restrictions. FRCs were handed out to those affected.
Train 307 - delayed 29 minutes into Fredericksburg due to switch problems south of Crystal City and heat restrictions. FRCs were handed out to those affected.
Train 309 - delayed 15 minutes into Fredericksburg as the result of heat restrictions and passengers needing assistance.
Train 313 - delayed 13 minutes into Fredericksburg after holding to operate on Manassas Line train #337's schedule and waiting for those passengers to detrain at Alexandria.

Train 337 - delayed 49 minutes into Broad Run after originating in Alexandria and being held north of Backlick Road and later north of Broad Run for freight train traffic.
Train 336 (afternoon northbound train) - delayed 10 minutes into Union Station due to switch problems south of Crystal City.
Train 338 (aftenoon northbound train) - terminated early at Alexandria because train 327 was late into Broad Run (which turns into northbound 338).

Train 303 - delayed 34 minutes into Fredericksburg due to congestion at Union Station, following an Amtrak train, heat restrictions and heat-related track inspections. FRCs will be handed out June 20 to those affected.
Train 305 - delayed 25 minutes into Fredericksburg as the result of congestion at Union Station, heat restrictions, and heat-related track inspections.
Train 307 - delayed 18 minutes into Fredericksburg due to heat restrictions and passengers needing assistance.
Train 309 - delayed 12 minutes into Fredericksburg as a result of heat restrictions.

Train 327 - delayed 17 minutes into Broard Run after train congestion at Union Station and following an Amtrak train.
Train 329 - delayed 11 minutes into Broad Run while waiting for northbound train 338 to leave Broad Run.
Train 331 - delayed 15 minutes into Broad Run due to passengers needing assistance.
Train 338 - (afternoon northbound train) - delayed 17 minutes into Union Station because train 327 was late into Broad Run (which turns into northbound 338).

July 18, 2006

Summary of delays:
Most of the morning trains were delayed just north of L'Enfant due to switch problems going from the CSX tracks to the Amtrak tracks into Union Station. CSX has repaired the switch. Evening delays on the Fredericksburg line were due to a combination of signal problems between Franconia/Springfield and Lorton and heat restrictions. CSX has found the source of the signal problem and has assured us that it has been repaired.

Train 300 - delayed 12 minutes into Union Station due to experiencing mechanical problems north of Quantico.
Train 302 - delayed 30 minutes into Union Station due to switch problems north of L'Enfant. Correction: FRCs were handed out on July 18 to those affected.
Train 304 - delayed 31 minutes into Union Station due to switch problems north of L'Enfant. Correction: FRCs were handed out on July 18 to those affected.
Train 306 - delayed 27 minutes into Union Station due to switch problems north of L'Enfant.
Train 308 - delayed 28 minutes into Union Station due to a combination of signal problems between Rippon and Alexandria and switch problems north of L'Enfant.

Train 326 - delayed 29 minutes into Union Station due to problems with the doors between Broad Run and Rolling Road and switch problems north of L'Enfant.
Train 328 - delayed 25 minutes into Union Station due to switch problems north of L'Enfant.
Train 330 - delayed 28 minutes into Union Station due to train traffic and switch problems north of L'Enfant.

Afternoon/Evening Service

Train 301 - delayed 10 minutes into Fredericksburg due to heat restrictions.

July 17, 2006

Summary of delays:
With the extremely high temperatures we experienced yesterday, the heat created some difficulties with our evening service. In addition to delays related to heat restrictions, the heat caused some mechanical problems on several of our trains, including a complete locomotive failure on the Manassas line. Switch and signal problems on the Fredericksburg line also contributed to some of the delays.

Train 300 - delayed 11 minutes into Union Station due to passenger dwell times
Train 306 - delayed 11 minutes into Union Station after following CSX freight train from Fredericksburg to L'Enfant

Afternoon/Evening Service

Train 301 - delayed 50 minutes late into Fredericksburg after having mechanical problems and heat restrictions. Most of the delay occured before the train arrived at Union Station. The locomotive was replaced and the train proceeded to Union Station. FRCs will be handed out on July 18 to those affected.
Train 303 - delayed 58 minutes into Fredericksburg after mechanical problems in Union Station, heat restrictions and a switch problem north of Fredericksburg. FRCs will be handed out on July 18 to those affected.
Train 305 - delayed 44 minutes into Fredericksburg as the result of signal problems between Woodbridge and Fredericksburg, switch problem north of Fredericksburg, and heat restrictions - FRCs were handed out to those affected.
Train 307 - delayed 42 minutes into Fredericksburg after waiting for Manassas line train 329 to clear the Alexandria station, signal problems near Woodbridge, and heat restrictions - FRCs were handed out to those affected.
Train 309 - delayed 26 minutes into Fredericksburg as the result of signal problems near Woodbridge and heat restrictions.
Train 313 - delayed 9 minutes into Fredericksburg after being held to operate for last Manassas train.

Train 327 - delayed 27 minutes into Broad Run after being held south of Alexandria because of problems with Norfolk Southern's dispatching system. FRCs will be handed out on July 18 for those affected.
Train 329 - terminated at Alexandria as the result of mechanical problems that affected the electrical systems (including air conditioning). The locomotive was repaired overnight. FRCs will be handed out on July 18 for those affected.
Train 331 - delayed 23 minutes into Broad Run due to passenger dwell time at Crystal City and Alexandria and a stop signal south of Alexandria.
Train 333 - delayed 17 minutes into Broad Run due to a stop signal south of Alexandria and waiting for northbound train 338 near Burke Centre.
Train 335 - delayed 91 minutes into Broad Run due to a locomotive failure near Manassas and waiting for train 337 to push it into Broad Run. The locomotive was removed from service and repaired. FRCs were handed out to those affected.
Train 337 - originated in Alexandria instead of Union Station then was 51 minutes late into Broad Run after pushing the disabled train 335 in - FRCs will be handed out on July 18 for those affected.

Fredericksburg Line Performance 38.5% | Manassas Line Performance 56.3%
