Summary of Delays

In the afternoon and evening, several factors came together to produce delays. A switch malfunctioned at RO (between L'Enfant and Crystal City), causing delays as engineers had to receive special instructions to pass the switch. Heat restrictions and unusually severe train congestion produced resulted in additional delays to Fredericksburg line trains.

Summary of Delays

In the morning, mechanical problems with the locomotive caused us to have to change locomotives on the train. In the afternoon and evening, a "sun kink" forced CSX to take one of the two tracks between Alexandria and Franconia/Springfield out of service, forcing all remaining train traffic onto the remaining track. Heat restrictions were also in effect.

Train 308 - canceled due to mechanical problems with the locomotive and backup locomotive at our storage yard South of Fredericksburg. FRCs were handed out the morning of August 2.
Train 310 - delayed 59 minutes due to mechanical problems combining the consist (cars) from train 308 onto train 310. FRCs were handed out the morning of August 2.

Afternoon/Evening Service

Train 301 - delayed 19 minutes due to heat restrictions, waiting for a signal and following a CSX freight train from Arkendale (between Quantico and Brooke) to Fredericksburg.
Train 303 - delayed 30 minutes into Fredericksburg due to single-tracking because of a "sun kink" near Alexandria, related heat inspections of tracks, and increased passenger dwell times due to having to operate on the track farther away from the platform at Lorton and Woodbridge. Train 305 - delayed 21 minutes due to single-tracking because of a "sun kink" near Alexandria, related heat inspections of tracks, increased passenger dwell times due to having to operate on the track farther away from the platform at Lorton and Woodbridge, and following train 303 South of Quantico.
Train 307 - delayed 21 minutes due to heat restrictions and increased passenger dwell times.
Train 311 - delayed 10 minutes due to heat restrictions and following CSX equipment moving into place to repair the "sun kink" South of Alexandria.

Train 327 - delayed 7 minutes due to train congestion at Alexandria.
Train 331 - delayed 8 minutes due to increased passenger dwell times.
Train 333 - delayed 17 minutes due to mechanical problems.
